Young Indian wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel achieved a milestone similar to that of Mahendra Singh Dhoni which took place 20 years ago and that is seven catches in an innings during the ongoing Duleep Trophy. Jurel was selected to play for India A in a match played on Sunday at Bengalure against India B. Despite his brilliance behind wickets, India A lost the match by 76 runs.
Dhoni first create that record in 2004/05 when playing for East Zone in tournament against Central Zone taking 7 catches. Jurel, 23 years of age, had great orthodox glove play to equal this achievement. But Dhruv Jurel had a double failure with the bat, making only 2 and 0 runs in the two innings.
Jurel was also named in the squad to face the Bangaldesh in the first Test when the teams are in the same room on Sunday.
India A let the target of 275 runs slip as they got all out for 198. KL Rahul top scored for India A with a munificent knock of 51 runs off 71 balls and looked pretty good till the time he batted, and others couldn’t provide any kind of support. The disciplined bowling attack of team B was exploited by Yash Dayal who took 3/50, Mukesh Kumar 2/50 and Navdeep Saini 2/41.
The Indian team played well, but Jurel’s record-breaking achievement was in vain thanks to the Indian B’s powerful bowling. Jurel of India A’s wicket keeper was also bright for the future of Indian cricket despite this loss.
The Duleep Trophy is still an arena for new players to present themselves, and the performance of Dhruv Jurel is the one that shall be noted in the annals of this tournament.
