Bhojpuri singer-turned-politician Manoj Tiwari (53) is the richest candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party, AAP and Congress in the Delhi Lok Sabha elections, Total assets amount to Rs 28.05 crore.
Second on the list is South Delhi candidate Ramvir Singh Bidhuri (71) of the Bharatiya Janata Party with total assets of Rs 21.08 crore. According to Bidhuri’s income tax return for 2022-23, his income was Rs 14.93 lakh.
The third ranked contender in the polls is Mahabal Mishra (69), the AAP candidate from west Delhi. He has declared Rs 1,993 crore. Mishra’s highest educational qualification is a matriculation certificate from LS College, Muzaffarpur, Bihar, in 1971.
Oxford-returned lawyer Bansuri Swaraj (40), the daughter of the late former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, has total assets worth Rs 19 crore, The fourth position is followed by former AAP leader Raaj Kumar Anand, who jumped ship to the BSP and owns assets worth Rs 17.87 crore.
Swaraj, a first-time contender from the BJP seat in New Delhi, owns two cars, including a high-end Mercedes Benz purchased in 2023, according to her sworn statement. She owns a sixth joint property worth Rs 99.34 lakh in Palwar, Haryana, and owns three apartments in posh areas of Delhi – two at Jantar Mantar and one at Khali road.
In her election affidavit, Swaraj disclosed that her income was Rs 68.28 lakh in the income tax return filed by her for 2022-23. She is a solicitor by profession, qualifying as a solicitor at the Inner Temple, London, in 2007, and obtaining a Master’s degree from St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, in 2009.
Tiwari, who is contesting from the Northeast Delhi seat for the third consecutive time from the BJP, had declared an income of Rs 46.25 lakh in his income tax return filed for 2022-23. He said his sources of income are singing, acting and serving as a member of Congress. He received his Bachelor’s degree (Honours) from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and his Master’s degree in Physical Education in 1994.
Anand is the Socialist Party of the Philippines candidate from the high-profile New Delhi seat. He claimed in his poll affidavit that he owns vehicles worth Rs 51 lakh, including his wife’s. Kanhaiya Kumar, the MP from the Northeast seat who is contesting from Tiwari, has total assets of Rs 10.65 lakh. He received his PhD from Jinan University in 2019.
Kamaljeet Sehrawat, a BJP MP from West Delhi constituency, claimed in her poll affidavit that her movable assets are worth Rs 130 crore and immovable assets are worth Rs 2.76 crore. She holds a master’s degree in commerce from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chandni Chowk candidate Praveen Khandelwal (64) has declared assets worth Rs 662 crore. As per his income tax return for 2022-23, his income was Rs 4.56 lakh. He graduated from Ramjas College, Delhi University.
Udit Raj (66), a candidate from North West Delhi, received his master’s degree from Osmania University in 1988 and his LLB from MMH College, CCS University, Meerut, in 1995. Year 2003. He owns movable assets worth Rs 554 crore.
Rajan Singh (26), the first third gender candidate in the Delhi Lok Sabha polls, has also filed papers from the south Delhi seat. His election affidavit showed that he had Rs 100,000 in cash and total movable assets amounting to Rs 1.51 million, including 200 grams of gold and about Rs 10,000 in his bank account. Singh declared in his poll affidavit to have no real estate.
AAP candidate Kuldeep Kumar (35) from East Delhi has declared movable assets of Rs 21.41 lakh and no immovable assets. He is a dropout from Shamlal College, Delhi University. Congress MP JP Agarwal (79) is a veteran Congress leader from Chandni Chowk. His total movable assets are Rs. 76.98 million and total immovable assets are Rs. 1.78 million. He graduated from Hansraj College, Delhi University in 1964.
Harsh Malhotra, 60, said in his affidavit that his total assets are Rs 375 crore and his source of income is the printing business. The East Delhi BJP candidate is a law graduate from Delhi University. Sahi Ram, 63, is the MLA from Tughalaqbad constituency. He claimed in his affidavit that his main sources of income were salary and MLA allowance, interest on savings account and rent. According to his affidavit, Ram owns movable assets of Rs 34.80 lakh and immovable assets of Rs 1.04 lakh.
According to the campaign affidavit of the BJP’s North West Delhi candidate Yogender Chandoliya, he graduated from Meerut’s Subharti University in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree (political science and history). The 61-year-old showed an income of Rs 3.83 lakh in his income tax return filed for 2022-23. The affidavit shows that his movable assets are valued at Rs 29.31 lakh and that of his wife at Rs 31.92 lakh.
Chandoliya owns one-third of the joint family property in Raigar Pura, which currently has a market value of Rs 215 crore. He and his wife also own their own vehicles. Delhi will hold the sixth phase of voting on May 25, and counting will be on June 4.
Review of submitted nomination papers will take place on May 7 and the last date to withdraw nominations is May 9.
