Steven Smith has just agreed to a three-year contract with Sydney Sixers; on the other hand, David Warner signed a two-year deal with Sydney Thunder of Big Bash League. This will be his first time ever in the BBL that he will be available for a whole season upon finishing up his international cricket endeavors.
According to Parami, Warner has played eight games for Thunder over the last two years including one. Where he was flown into SCG by helicopter in the past year.
“Davey is loved all around globe wherever he plays, especially India and I know Sydney’s western south Asian communities are going to be right behind him at Thunder.” Trent Copeland spoke on behalf of Thunders through a press release saying. The general manager also said, ‘In Davey we have got a world class talent with almost 20 years of T20 experience and now that he has retired from international cricket. We can bank on his full attention and dedication throughout the entire competition including any finals.’
Smith won the inaugural BBL championship with Sixers in 2012. However, since then he has made very few appearances for his franchise. Besides having an impressive record-breaking spell in cricket as an elderly Australian batter. This veteran became the first male player representing Sixers to reach 100 runs.
As earlier mentioned, Smith was not part of Australia’s T20 World Cup squad earlier this year.
In July, however, he went across to America where Ricky Ponting was coaching Washington Freedom; it is one of Major league Cricket teams there. The team achieved its first ever champion status under that leadership.
Prior to season fourteen Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers re-signed Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey respectively. Who are fellow teammates with Smith during Ashes matches.
Brisbane Heat coach Johan Botha observed about Labuschagne that “His game sense is exceptional and that is a huge asset to us on and off field.”
However, Carey has committed to a four-year contract with Strikers. Over his 8 year career in BBl, he has played for the Strikers in all 56 of his matches.
