The couple was affected by a huge explosion that destroyed their house at Gangavaram mandal of Chittoor district on Friday night (August 23, 2024) and they were undergoing treatment in Government Hospital in Palamaner. On Saturday (August 24, 2024), they succumbed to their injuries; however, the condition of their three-year-old son continued to be critical.
On Friday night around Maredupalle village, a bomb-like sound occurred which nearly damaged the ears. Khader Basha who is aged thirty-nine and his wife Zareena aged thirty four along with his son arrived home late on Friday evening after attending an event in Palamaner. The whole neighborhood was awakened by the sound of an explosion just before midnight; it left them homeless.
Every year during Deepawali festival Khader Basha gets permission to sell crackers even though he retains them inside the house and sells them all year round during processions as well as cremation ceremonies.
Khader Basha along with his son were critically injured amidst rubble brought about by collapse of the building. However, it was not easy for residents and policemen who had to search for Zareerna under debris and get her out.
Additionally two cows near the compound died instantly due to blast. The magnitude of this blast made several fearing people believe that there was an earthquake that resulted from it leaving many neighbouring structures razed down. This explosion sent numerous household items flying up into the air for over one hundred meters.
These people almost saved their lives because every day before midnight they gathered at a small shop located nearby. Yet just minutes prior to explosion they set off for a temple situated in that village where some kind of puja would take place there. This blast’s nature raised questions concerning potential unauthorised storage of black powder as well as explosive making materials. Finally police registered a case and rushed to investigate further matters concerning this incident.
