A recent incident has stirred up the Indian cinema where actor Arshad Warsi’s was critical of Prabhas performance in the sci fi film Kalki 2898 AD. These comments were made during an interview and have elicited great concern on the part of the professionals of the Telugu Film industry.
CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon intervenes over Arshad Warsi’s ‘joker’ statement regarding Prabhas in Kalki 2898 AD, “I am sure it was not meant to hurt him as a person”.
Cavoid – In October 2020 CINTAA president Poonam Dhillon too, in response to the criticism over Arshad Warsi’s comments apologised to the Telugu film industry via media. Maam responded that she received a letter from the President of MAA Vishnu Manchu on this subject. Expressing deep displeasure over the news reports, MAA chief Vishnu Manchu said these comments made by Arshad Warsi were insensitive and such should not have been entertained.
Poonam Dhillon was approached by Parami and after stressing on why this is important for the whole industry, gave further directions. However, while she was speaking to Parami, she made it very clear that Poonam is optimistic that Arshad meant to blame the character in the movie and not blames Prabhas. Still, she mentioned that an explanation is required.
“In my perspective, it is undoubtedly something that has created a bit of rift making everyone frown, particularly for the Telugu industry,” admitted Dhillon. “We have also written to Arshad Warsi’s and are awaiting his response in that regard.”
Many thanks to Poonam, she kept high hopes of Warsi’s coming up and explaining what Durga meant, in case there were any hard feelings in the Telugu industry. She also mentioned about Prabhas, saying he was an adored and extremely well known person in the cinema industry and stating that these comments were likely not made with the intention of targeting him personally.
“Yes, I understand that he did not make that remark on Prabhas per se; perhaps it was about the character in the film. But I’d still want him to explain himself and if necessary, take back the pain that he might’ve inflicted on the artistes from the Telugu industry; for it is one industry,” Dhillon said.
“Prabhas happens to be one of the most decent, nice, respected people of the industry and I am sure it was not intended to be an attack on him.” ‘Whenever these situations come up, it kind of divides all the industries in India, and I think that there shouldn’t be any such conflict owing to this because everyone is connected to each other,’ Dhillon stated. She voiced her wish to end the dispute and keep peace for all the artists as she believed there was no need for any breach in peace.
“He’s entitled to state his position and the rest of you will understand why I say so,” Dhillon remarked. “I would want to imagine that as a responsible person, an actor for that matter, he wouldn’t utter such words about a well- liked and well-respected person.”
However, the controversy emerged when Warsi, in the show Unfiltered by Samdish, described Prabhas look in the film Kalki 2898 AD as that of a joker. This film was included in the list of movies that the actor did not like and which the actor was invited to comment on. When complimenting Amitabh Bachchan’s acting in this work, the actor became a little critical regarding Prabhas’ appearance.
