Mathias Boe, who is the coach of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, announced on Saturday that he would be leaving his coaching job after India’s top-seeded badminton team was eliminated from the ongoing Olympics in Paris.
In the men’s doubles quarterfinals on Thursday, Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik beat out Satwik and Chirag 21-13, 14-21, 16-21.
Before the Tokyo Olympics were held, Boe had coached both of them since then having won a silver medal at the London Olympics.
“My days as a coach are over. I have no intention to continue for now in India or anywhere else at least not now. Being a coach is very demanding and it is also too much strain spending all this time inside a badminton hall.” Wrote PTI quoting him on his Insta-page.
Boe consoled Satwik and Chirag who were firm favourites to win the men’s doubles in Paris.
“I know how it feels. Day-in-day-out pushing yourself to your limit so you can be fittest of your life but then things turn against you.
“I know you guys are gutted, I know how much you wanted to bring a medal back to India but this time it wasn’t meant to be,” Boe said.
Nevertheless, despite failing of his charges coming back with any medal from Paris, Boe said that he leaves having achieved satisfaction.
“You have everything to be proud of, how hard you have worked in this Olympics camp, battling injuries, even taken injections to reduce the pain, that is dedication, that is passion and that is a lot of Heart,” he wrote.
