Pakistan Cricket Board has proposed Lahore as India’s home base during the ICC Champions Trophy next year to ensure that better security is offered to their neighbors.
According to a confidential PCB source, this suggestion was part of the event’s draft itinerary which was submitted to the ICC in late April.
“Yes Lahore has been suggested as Indian team’s home base in order to cut down on travel and give them better security arrangements,” the source said.
However, due to security reasons, India declined participating in Pakistan during the last Asia Cup consequently leading to changing of venues for their matches in favor of Sri Lanka.
The ICC 50-over tournament will be held in Pakistan from February 19th-March 9th of next year.
PCB has kept Karachi and Rawalpindi as additional venues for Champions Trophy matches but still, it is yet to be approved by ICC executive board
This will be the first time Pakistan hosts any major ICC event since 1996 though it staged entire Asia Cup in 2008 and also some games of the same event last year.
However, there are no official statements yet whether BCCI will send its national team to Pakistan for this world tournament or not?
The PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has given an indication that big changes are on their way for Pakistan’s team after they went down fighting by six runs against India at a T20 World Cup match played in New York on Sunday evening
In addition, he mentioned earlier that all three stadiums including Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi will go through renovations before Champions trophy takes place
Besides, PSL will take place next April while accommodating Champions Trophy announced recently by PCB. The former desires running a tri-series with South Africa and New Zealand prior to hosting ICC Tournament.
