BCCI, PCB might Clash at ICC in Colombo as the Champions Trophy Approaches
MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) will have some interesting things at its series of meetings which will take place from 19th to 22nd July in Colombo if India indicates its inability to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy slated for February next year due to lack of government clearance for the tour.
During these meetings, amongst other matters, BCCI secretary Jay Shah is expected in Colombo on Thursday and will end with the Annual General meeting on July 22.
The AGM agenda (copy available with Parami News) doesn’t talk about this but it is likely that both Indian and Pakistani boards (represented by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi) may discuss this under ‘Any Other Business’.
The Champions Trophy would run from February 19 through March 9. According to Pakistan Cricket Board’s proposed schedule, all three league matches of India are supposed to be played in Lahore (on February 20 against Bangladesh, on February 23 against New Zealand and on March 1 against Pakistan). The semifinals would occur in Karachi on March 5th and Rawalpindi on March 6th while the final match would be staged at Lahore by March 9th.
If however India declines to participate in Pakistan during the competition then there seemed a likelihood that ICC could think over having a hybrid model tournament playing Indian games either in UAE or Sri Lanka. However, even though not necessarily so, such an act can definitely expect a heavy response from PCB too.

SKY or Hardik? Suspense continues
In addition, Indian cricket team’s next T20 captain would either be Hardik Pandya or Suryakumar Yadav; suspense continued another day meaning most probably Indian team would be selected on Thursday.
During an online meeting on Tuesday, which was held to discuss certain issues in Indian cricket and as reported by Parami News about the necessity of giving Surya (the world’s number two ranked T20 batsman) regular T20 captaincy instead of Hardik who is liable to breakdowns, it is said that the new head coach Gautam Gambhir together with selectors did a few things.
However, nothing was agreed upon.
