For the past week, the audiences have been keeping a constant track of the upcoming political drama starring Kangana Ranaut and titled Emergency, because of the controversies it has generated. In a surprising turn of events post the actions taken against them today, the producers have made a choice to delay the release of the movie. In other words, it won’t be making its way to the theatres on the 6th of September.
This delay in the announcement might have more to do with the controversy surrounding the film. For instance, yesterday August 31, reports emerged that the Punjab and Haryana High Court was reporting for hearing over a case filed by Gurinder Singh and Jagmohan Singh on Bollywood Hungama. These particular people from Mohali have demanded that censor board should revoke the censor certificate issued to Emergency. They also recommended that prior to the film’s public showing, a review of it by prominent Sikh leaders should be done.
In the very same story, Bollywood Hungama went on to report that the CBFC has passed the film but made some cuts to be made in the film. However the certification is still under consideration. Additional Solicitor General of India present for the CBFC Mr Satya Pal Jain as per Hindustan Times reported to the court as ‘It has not been granted as of now. It will be granted as per rules and regulations whether it is this case. If anyone has any grievance: the same can be sent to the board.’
It remains now to be seen when Emergency comes out and indeed whether its release would be delayed by a week.
