NEW DELHI: According to Nine’s Wide World of Sports, former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist stated that if Australian batters wish to win the second of the fiercely contested Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the pink-ball Test match against India in Adelaide, they will need to spend more time at the crease while batting.
Gilchrist advised the struggling hosts to go defensive and “weather the storm” as Jasprit Bumrah tore through the Australian lineup, claiming eight wickets, including a fifer, in the first innings in Perth.

According to Gilchrist, Marnus attempted to stay at the crease for a long time during his 52-ball stay during the Perth Test, where he made two runs.
However, Australians would typically be on the “right side of the ledger” rather than the wrong, so that would not always be the case.

Why it’s important for Rohit Sharma to play patiently in the Test series vs Australia

“Marnus had the onus to do that and tried at good effect to nullify 50-odd deliveries. So, if you face an average of 50 deliveries every Test innings, you’re probably going to be on the right side of the ledger more than you’re on the wrong side of it,” he said as quoted by Nine’s Wide World of Sports.
“He just couldn’t find a way to score and maybe that’s what [the Australians] as a collective will look to try and do.
“It will bring with it risk, for sure, but it is a risk for reward,” he signed off.
In case they feel vulnerable with the bat, Gilchrist also endorsed Sean Abbott, who has a century and an average of 24.55 in first-class cricket, to replace Josh Hazlewood, who is injured.
“They did send out the SOS to him,” Gilchrist said.
