Gautam Gambhir believes he has big boots to fit as he takes up the position of head coach of Team India, following in the path of legends like Rahul Dravid and Ravi Shastri.
“The most vital thing is that they will never leave me. Make it into a happy and safe dressing room. I am taking over a very successful team. Runner-ups in WTC and 50-overs WC.I have big shoes to fill and looking forward to it,” Gambhir said on Monday at a press conference in Mumbai.
Ryan Ten Doeschate will act as the assistant coach of the team together with Abhishek Nayar.
“I have worked closely with Abhishek and Ryan over the past two months at IPL with KKR. Both are absolute professionals and hopefully have a successful stint with the Indian team as coaches.”
Having Rohit Sharma, captain of Team India, and star batsman Virat Kohli join his squad means that Gambhir at least will be dealing with a dressing room filled with stars when ODIs begin. According to Gambhir, he gets along well with Virat Kohli.
“Virat Kohli & I had great terms we exchange messages – he is World class, world-class batter, I have told you many times, that we both will work hard for team India & make 140 crore people proud,” reads Parami News quoting him.
“They are both cricketing giants still having lots more cricket left in them – there is Champion Trophy coming up then Australia series then if fitness goes well then 2027 World Cup,” he added.
