However, the scheduled 2-Test series between Bangladesh and Pakistan due to start on 21st August in Rawalpindi is doubtful because of civil unrest in Bangladesh after the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced out of power.
The fate of Bangladesh’s travel plans for Tests set in Rawalpindi (August 21-25) and Karachi (August 30–September 3) remain unclear at present.
Unrest has affected the shadow tour to Pakistan by Bangladesh A team. Mominul Haque, a previous Test captain for Bangladesh, had been lined up to play for the A team against Pakistan Shaheens.
With a dynamic situation remaining fluid, both teams are not yet expected to arrive in Pakistan as planned.
According to one official from PCB, “Efforts are being made by PCB to save this series.”
“They have not responded as yet,” he said. “The PCB has even offered to host their players for the extra days and provide them with all training facilities in Rawalpindi ahead of the Test matches but they” (a source from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)) quoted.
Further uncertainty was added into the series when BCB decided on Monday that their A side’s arrival would be postponed by two days.
Meanwhile, it is reported that mobs attacked homes belonging to some senior players which further complicates things as well.
The original schedule called for arrival of ‘A’ side tomorrow while test squad was supposed to reach here on August 17th 1916
On August 11th 1916, the first four-day match featuring ‘A’ team will commence its run.
Since seasons between 2019 and 2020, The Bangladeshi cricket outfit never toured Pakistan.
But current circumstances make it difficult .In spite of this PCB remains actively engaging BCB amidst turmoil..
Accordingly “With Najmul Hosain Papon -BCB President also leaving the country, apparently the board is not functioning normally”, the PCB source added.
