A group of students traveling from Bangladesh to India arrived on July 20 amid widespread protest around the country and clearance is done at Immigration.
The Indian High Commission in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna have been working for the safe return of Indian nationals following recent violent protests in Bangladesh.
Currently, a total of 778 numbers of Indian students have returned to India through different land ports. Furthermore, about 200 students returned home by regular flight services through Dhaka and Chittagong airports.
According to MEA’s latest update, “The High Commission of India in Dhaka and our Assistant High Commissions are in regular touch with more than 4,000 students remaining in various universities in Bangladesh” about evacuation of Indians from Bangladesh.
This week’s violent student protests against quotas for government jobs have claimed lives of at least one hundred five people so far.

“We are aware of the measures taken by local authorities regarding these protests. Our High Commission remains in contact with local authorities regarding safety issues concerning our nationals.” This was said by the Indian High Commission and relevant machineries within MEA as they keep track on what is happening there.
On July 19th, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told that at least fifteen thousand Indians were presently staying in Bangladesh thereby asking their relatives to check updates from the Indian officials. “We remain committed to providing all possible assistance to our nationals in Bangladesh,” said Mr. Jaiswal.
