Anshuman Gaekwad, a significant name in Indian cricket both as a player and coach died on Wednesday at the age of 71 after a long fight with cancer. His demise led to messages of condolences from different corners including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gaekwad’s journey in cricket was characterized by substantial contributions on and off the field. As India, he played 40 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals where he demonstrated his batting skills. Apart from playing career, Anshuman Gaekwad became a coach taking up the position of the head coach for Indian national team.
His coaching stint with the Indian team had some achievements such as finishing second in the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy.
This achievement further strengthened his reputation as being an able strategist and mentor within the cricketing fraternity.
Anshuman Gaekwad’s fight against cancer showed his resilience. Before he came back to India last month, he received treatment at Kings College London Hospital.
