Hyderabad native Beereddy was arrested in West Delhi on May 3.
He appeared before the court after his arrest and was kept in custody by a special team of Delhi police for further questioning for three days. But he was taken into judicial custody during Tuesday.
On Wednesday, official sources said that the Delhi Police had identified Arun Beereddy who is the Congress Social Media Team’s National Coordinator as the “primary” mastermind behind all these fake videos featuring Amit Shah, the Union Minister of India’s Home Affairs.
Beereddy, a Hyderabad resident, was to be held from the Western part of Delhi on May 3rd. He was produced in court after his capture and retained there by a special unit of The Delhi Police Department for three days to get further information from him. On Tuesday he has been sent to jail.
According to one officer involved with the investigation into such fake videos, other suspected accomplices of Biredi have come up who were allegedly aiding him create bogus clips and post them onto social sites in order to mislead people about political candidates during the election campaign. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) is yet to release its report on electronic items like mobiles and laptops seized from Beereddy but official sources indicate that so far investigations have revealed that he is one of the main makers of this fake video.
The other source said that since registration of this case on April 28th, a special cell team has been camping at Telangana and carried out raids at different places in Hyderabad on Monday and Tuesday collecting evidence related to this case. They also questioned some people.
For instance, an FIR was lodged against them pursuant to Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 153A(promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth)465 (punishment for forgery), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 171G (false statement in connection with an election). The police later added the conspiracy section for this case.
The complaint was about a manipulated video that showed Shah changing his statement on religious grounds. He was made to appear as if he argued that all reservations should be removed.
