A College Museum This film company has organized a project that will investigate the “musical tapestry” produced from the soundtracks of three famous Indian movies –“quantitative easing”,,”slumdog millionaire” and “river”.museum in Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciencessays lecture will take place in May 18 at David Geffen Theater in Los Angeles.
We invite you to join us on a celebratory journey through Indian cinema history and Academy Awards using interactive dives into RRR (2022), Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and Lagaan (2001).
According to the official website of the Academy Museum, “This program examines how three influential films, each celebrated as much for their musical contributions to world cinema as for their cinematography, have been able to touch people worldwide.”
The release stated that after the lecture there would be live tabla performances by dance groups Bollypop and Sadubas (traditional tabla player Robin Sukhadia alongside EDM producer Ameet Mehta), who would re-imagine music from these three movies.
SS Rajamouli’s RRR is a pre-independence fictional story revolving around two real-life Indian revolutionaries of the 1920s – Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR). Its Telugu track “Naatu Naatu” became the first ever original song award-winning song from an indian-made film grossing over 1,200 crore rupees worldwide .
Lagan’s director was Ashutosh Gowariker with Aamir Khan as its lead actor. It was India’s last movie at Oscars’ final five foreign language nominees’ list known now as International Film category when it lost out to “No Man’s Land” in 2001.
Slumdog Millionaire is a British production made by Danny Boyle set in Mumbai. The film won eight Academy Awards in 2008 including the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Song (AR Rahman and Gulzar). The Academy Award for Best Original Score was once more given to Rahman. UK’s Sound Designer Richard Pryke and Ian Tapp shared the best Remix award with Indian sound designer Results Pukuti.
