Volodymyr Zelenskyy: The President of Ukraine
Ukraine Prez Zelenskyy fired one of his top generals from the post on Monday, following public outcry that the general’s decisions led to many losses in form of lives.
The sacking of Yurii Sodol as the commander-in-chief of Armed Forces Joint Forces clearly showed that differences which had been troubling Ukrainian army since Zelenskyy replaced his Commanding General Valery Zaluzhny with General Oleksandr Syrsky back in Feb, still continued to threaten military unity. He will be replaced by Brig Gen Andrii Hnatov announced by president. Part of general shake-up done by General Syrsky in Feb, who appointed Sodol and did not explain his reason for firing him or where he will go next.
However, it came a while after Bohdan Krotevych—in charge at the Azov brigade which is part of Ukrainian National Guard—had written a letter urging investigation into this officer’s behaviour to State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). Then, just hours before being demoted, Krotevych published an unusually harsh and direct statement on social media implying that this leader was indirectly responsible for “the deaths more than any other Russian general.” In his public letter, he never mentioned Sodol directly but he demonstrated how all the troops in Ukraine understood who they were talking about. “All our forces know because more than 99% hate him for what he does,” he wrote.
