Kodi beach near Kundapura is always packed with young children who are working on their sand art. World Kundapura Kannada Day is a celebration of the local dialect of Kannada, unique to the region and the cultural identity of the coastal town.
This year’s edition of Vishwa Kundapura Kannada Dina will be held in Bengaluru on August 17 and 18.
Given that this event held by organizers focused on Kannada language spoken only in Kundapura and coastal culture which made it extremely popular among people, they have decided to make it grander by taking it to Palace Ground.
Bengaluru based organization Kundapura Kannada Prathishtana is organizing its fifth annual affair.
According to Deepak Shetty Barkuru, president Prathishtana, earlier when venue was Bunts’ Sangha hall in Vijayanagar almost 70 percent visitors never even set foot into there. He explained that since then need for a bigger place has arisen.
On August 17th, the first day of festivities at ten different locations in Bangalore begins with dhibbana (a procession). After these participants would also sing famous songs about sea coast as well as other beautiful places where they live right now. The program inauguration would include speeches dedicated to nudi chaavadi while famous artists would play Yakshagana called jodaata at night.
Several film stars will grace this occasion when an audience of fifteen thousand is expected for the Yakshagana.
During these two days Bayalaata (rural sports), rathothsava (chariot procession), a fusion piece between African music and that from Kundapura, food fair featuring traditional delicacies of Kundapura, Bhujabala Parakrama (tug of war), special dance show from Kundapuram, traditional fair in Kundapura, a programme involving cine stars from the region, poem renditions done by music director Ravi Basruru and a stand-up comedy show will be held.
