A female aged 50 years was discovered chained to a tree with iron chains in a forest in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, and according to one police officer, some of her documents like the Xerox copy of her America’s U.S. passport including an Aadhar card with Tamil Nadu address were found on her.
According to the official, she was heard yelling by a shepherd on Saturday evening at Sonurli village which is about 450 kilometers from Mumbai and he reported it to the police after finding her chained there and in distress.
“She was taken for treatment to Sawantwadi hospital (in Konkan region) first and then Oros in Sindhudurg. Because of her mental and health condition, she was shifted for advanced treatment in Goa Medical College. She is now out of danger. Doctors treating her said she suffers from psychiatric problems. We have found medical prescriptions among other things,” the official stated.
“We also recovered Aadhaar card belonging to Lalita Kayi having Tamil Nadu address and photocopy of her United States of America passport.” “Her visa has expired”. “We are verifying all these documents so that we can establish where she comes from.” The police are also liaising with the Foreigners Regional Registration office,’ he added
According to him, preliminary information available with the police suggests that for the last ten years she has been staying in India.
“The woman isn’t able to make any statement yet,” he explained. “The lady is feeble since she did not eat anything for couple days and moreover it rained heavily here recently hence left wet grounds made it difficult for her. We do not know how long she had been tied up at that tree spot though we guess that his husband who hails from Tamil Nadu must have tied her there before disappearing,’’ he concluded
He further said that Police teams have set off for Tamil Nadu, Goa and some other places so as to trace out relatives etc. during the investigation.
