On Thursday, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump used social media to suggest annihilating Iran, recalling his past fiery language as president. A week ago, Trump’s security detail had been stepped up due to alleged Iranian threats against him.
“If they do ‘assassinate President Trump,’ which is always a possibility, I hope that America obliterates Iran, wipes it off the face of the Earth – If that does not happen, American Leaders will be considered ‘gutless’ cowards!” Tweeted Trump on his social media platform called Truth Social.
Just last week, he released this statement with a video in which the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about an alleged plot by Iran targeting him while addressing the United States Congress.
Last week reports indicated that US Secret Service has increased security around Trump after they learned of an Iranian plot to assassinate him. Parami News said this information was credited to “human source.” However, this does not relate to a recent shooting at a campaign rally.
The incident occurred in Butler Pennsylvania where shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks fired injuring lightly president and killing one rally attendee according to various U.S outlets.
Tensions between America and Iran have been long-standing and were intensified following the 2020 assassination by then-president Trump of Qasem Soleimani who was an IRGC commander.
“For years now US National Security Council has been tracking Iranian threats against ex-Trump administration officials.”
Trump’s recent remarks are reminiscent of 2019 in which he threatened Iran with “obliteration” if it launched an attack on American interests. This came after Iranian authorities announced that diplomatic relations between them and America had finally ended due to new sanctions imposed by Mr. Trump.
He also made inflammatory statements towards North Korea as President calling for “fire and fury like the world has never seen,” only for later developing something of a friendly relationship with its leader Kim Jong Un whom he often refers to as being in love with himself.
