New Delhi: Congress President Malika Junhag on Saturday declared that she would write a second letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI) demanding reasons for rejecting her application which accused the commission of mismanagement and delays in releasing voter turnout data.
Malika Hager said, “I will write another letter asking for the reasons for the rejection, but I will not release it to the media until it reaches ECI.”
This is coming just a day after pollsters were accused of president of congress Hager’s accusations as being baseless, having no basis in fact and “reflecting a biased and deliberate attempt to sow confusion.”
The committee’s members noted a “pattern” in Congress’ previous and present irresponsible statements. The committee termed it as ‘disturbing’ adding that congress president was trying to force feed a biased narrative when all this while she had not bothered herself with facts. It outrightly dismissed Haq’s argument terming it as innuendo and innuendo.
Moreover, the commission has rebuffed claims of delays in presenting turnout data pointing out that updated turnout figures are consistently higher than what was recorded on polling day as well as providing factual matrix since 2019 general election.
In his last letter to the India Bloc leaders, Haq highlighted the delay in releasing final vote percentage during early stages of Lok Sabha elections suggesting an impairment on data credibility provided by poll panel due to such delay.
Haqq questioned why the EC took so long before releasing voter turnout statistics for first two rounds of voting for 2024 Lok Sabha elections released 11 days later for first phase and four days after that for second phase. Besides he asked them to clarify why there was a delay.
Hague urged group leaders to express collectively these concerns about inequalities with emphasis on protection democracy while ensuring impartiality in functioning electoral commissions. He also expressed concern over possible attempts at manipulating final outcome saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ruling the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by the latter would go to any length in order to maintain their grip on power.
