If the law ministry requested, Bangladesh’s interim government will work on bringing back the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina who left the country due to violent protests over quotas.
According to a report by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), foreign affairs advisor Md Touhid Hossain made this statement during his first press briefing at the foreign ministry on Sunday.
The Nobel laureate Mohammed Yunus led interim government was inaugurated last week.
Hossain also spoke about Delhi relations with Dhaka “We want people to feel that India is a good friend of Bangladesh …we want it, we want to grow (Dhaka-Delhi) relation through that way…we’d like India will help us in this context.”
Sheikh Hasina currently lives in India and she has blamed USA for taking part in her usurpation from power.
On international relations, Hossain said: “Our policy is to maintain good relations with all countries while protecting our national interests. We seek friendship with all and enmity with none, aiming to establish balanced relations. Our primary task is to safeguard our interests.”
He went on, “This interim government does not only have one direction as its focus so thinking about it becomes meaningless. We intend to have smooth and positive relations with everyone… including China and India,” he added.
Also speaking about possibilities of general elections in his country he stated, “At this stage speculation is unnecessary; our main goal is conducting an impartial election.”
