Reed Hastings, the co-founder of Netflix had recently made a $7m donation to a super PAC that is supporting Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
The news was met with criticism from social media users who called for boycotts on the streaming platform.
It is believed that this $7 million contribution by Mr. Hastings could be his largest political donations so far to an individual candidate.
On Monday, the executive chairman at Netflix, took to Tweeter to congratulate Harris for garnering majority support of Democratic delegates making her the party’s nominee against Donald Trump. He also used X earlier in the week saying “Congrats Kamala Harris now let us win”.
This came after former President Barack Obama affirmed his support for Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for US presidency thereby consolidating backing from all prominent personalities within her party in her campaign for White House.
At first, Obama has declined endorsing any candidate after Joe Biden announced discontinuation of his race hence seeking an open nominating contest at next month’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
However, once she got endorsement from Bill and Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, various state governors and senior Democrats in Congress and Biden himself, Obama joined other leaders who are rallying behind Vice President Kamala Harris.
