According to Israel, Ibrahim Aqil, a senior commander of Hezbollah and commander of the Radwan elite forces, was injured in Israeli airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday.
The IDF also stated that Aqil was preparing an operation to attack the land of Israel with the intention of invading and attacking the regions of the Galilee.
The Israeli army provides the data of the several warriors that were interrogated by the Hamas; Aqil’s aims were the same as those of Hamas’ on October 7.
Aqil order was confirmed by the Israeli army stating that aqil and his men were underground under a civilians crowded building in the Dahiyeh area, who were used as shields.
Who was Aqil?
In 2015, the US department of the treasury put on the list of specially designated nationals, due to his activity in interests of Hezbollah. In 2019, he was further designated as a specially designated global terrorist by the US state department.
In the 1980s, Aqil was involved in attacks such as the bombing of US embassy, and US marine corps in Beiruti barracks which claimed several lives in 1983. In Lebanon, he conducted operations that abducted Americans and Germans. His participation in 1986 terrorism in Paris was likewise chronicled by the u.s. treasury.
In turn of 2023, America decided to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the embassy bombing with the offer of $7 million ‘reward’ for information leading to Aqil on April 2023.
‘Key leader’ in Jihad Council
The United States included Aqil-known as Hajj Abdul Qader-himself in its sanction list close to a decade ago and stated that he is a “ key leader “ within the Jihad Council which happens to be the highest military body of the terrorist group Hezbollah.
Him reside within US treasury, Aqil was peculiarly implicated in the military operations of Hezbollah in the Syrian theatre.
Aqil ranked as the second assistant of military affairs after Fuad Shukr al-Batati – Warhead who later was killed on July 30, during an Israel attack.
Aqil was also in charge of the Radwan Force, which was formed after the Second Lebanon War in 2006. It is designed for ground operations and combat missions, including the penetration of Israeli territory and seizure of strategically important objects. Fighters of the Radwan brigades have also participated in wars outside of Lebanon and have acquired combat experience in Syrian wars.
Hezbollah’s military wing Radwan force commanders Abed Hassan Azzam and herzi Abed have been boarded into Lebanon under Russian pressure, Israeli officials revealed. Lately, as it was reported since October, Hezbollah has sustained several losses of commanders, including those of Mohammed Naameh Nasser and Taleb Abdallah, both as aablated in Arab testament into Israeli air attack.
Aqil was also Radwan Force’s Deputy Commander until Zahir – Al-Shibli, Chief of Radwan Forces, was killed last January.
During the Israeli airstrike in Beirut, 7 men were killed including Ibrahim Aaqil. There was a bombing in the southern suburb of Beirut which claimed 59 victims and inflicted heavy losses on Hezbollah. The assault took place just a day after Hassan Nasrallah, head of Hezbollah, threatened to hit his Israeli opposers.
Hezbollah has not officially confirmed Aqil’s killing but, according to them, the attack was directed towards an Israeli reconnaissance apparatus and caused several odd ‘deaths.’
