Making reference to the recent Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, through a picture captioned, “Where were your eyes?” Israel has hit back following a lot of criticisms leveled against it worldwide. This follows numerous celebrities and public figures who joined millions of members of the social media sharing an AI-generated image called ‘All eyes on Rafah’ which was designed to create awareness about Israeli airstrikes in Rafah-a war-torn city in Gaza.
During an airstrike by Israeli jets aimed at eliminating Hamas, at least 45 civilians including children died while others were injured in a refugee camp at Rafah. The incident sparked outrage across the world; however, Israel as it faced criticism maintained that it did not target the Rafah camp but rather that there was collateral damage caused by stray rockets which hit a weapons depot belonging to Hamas.
In this regard, Tel Aviv shared an image showing one attack carried out on October 7 killing approximately 1,160 people who were mainly civilians in Israel. Over 250 hostages were also captured by these militants and some were released during a truce lasting for about seven days in November. According to Israel, at present around ninety-nine hostages are alive and thirty-one have died.
More than 31 thousand people have been killed in this campaign according to health ministry data from Gaza which is controlled by Hamas.
On X platform, the current Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu posted a picture that shows a baby with its message being “Where were your eyes on October 7.”
This was after nearly forty-four million users shared the ‘All eyes on Rafah’ image via Instagram. The photograph depicts long lines of tents tightly packed together stretching far into the distance over desert land overshadowed by hills signifying hundreds of thousands Palestinians who went there for asylum during Israeli military operation against Hamas.
