The student organization are using slogans from Bangladesh for its march to the Secretariat.
This followed a demand by Paschimbanga Chattro Samaj, a student organization on Tuesday (August 27, 2024), for a ‘March to Nabanna’ over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, which called for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation.
Slogans taken from Bangladesh have been adopted by this student organization for their Secretariat match “Dafa Ek, Daabi Ek, Mamataar Podotyag (One point, one demand, resignation of Mamata)” is one of the slogans raised by those who have given a call for the rally.
On Tuesday at exactly two o’clock in the afternoon when it will be time to March to Nabanna the organizers disclosed that participants will start assembling at about p.m. The Left students and youth wings have distanced themselves from the march, while BJP has supported it.
Meanwhile Kolkata Additional Commissioner of Police Supratim Sarkar said on Monday (August 26, 2024) that an application by ‘Paschimbanga Chhatro Samaj’ requesting permission to hold a demonstration named ‘Nabanna Abhiyaan’ on August 27 was rejected. According to him their application was declined because they did not seek formal permission and provided scanty information.
Supratim Sarkar, Additional Director General of Police (South Bengal) while speaking to the journalists at Secretariat said that “we have credible information that some miscreants may try to cause large scale violence and anarchy leading to a situation where police will be compelled to use force to maintain law & order”.
Also, on Monday 26th August 2024, the CBI concluded a second round of polygraph test on the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (RGKMCH), Dr Sandip Ghosh, as part of their investigation into rape-murder of a lady doctor in the college.
