Members of the Andhra Pradesh Speciality Hospital Association (ASHA) have demanded that the State government immediately clear the pending dues to all the hospitals offering services under the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme.
Addressing the media in Vijayawada on Saturday, ASHA president K. Vijay Kumar has said there had been no cash flow from the State government to hospitals since June. “Initially, we wanted to give some time for the new government to adjust. We also kept quiet considering the financial situation of the State. But now, we cannot provide treatments to people under the scheme without the government’s help,” said Dr. Vijay Kumar.
He said there were 360 empanelled hospitals in the State, which were waiting for dues amounting to nearly ₹2,500 crore. “In every hospital, 80% of the beds are occupied by patients availing themselves of the scheme. How are we to continue if there are no funds from the government,” Dr. Vijay Kumar asked. He announced that for now they would stop offering treatment under this scheme to government employees.
“All these days, we managed the treatment costs through overdraft arrangement. Now, the banks are not allowing us to withdraw any more money. The suppliers have stopped sending disposables and drugs. We are in a dire situation,” the association president said, requesting the government to look into the issue.
