A team from NDRF is conducting search and rescue operations on the landslide-hit areas in Wayanad.
On Friday, 9 August 2024, the Kerala Government announced that it would provide immediate financial assistance to Mundakkai and ‘Chooralmala regions’ victims of a landslide at Wayanad District for their relocation from relief camps to other places of accommodation.
The Chief Minister said that two adults per family, who lost their livelihoods due to landslides on July 30th, will receive daily allowances amounting to ₹300 each. In case of families with patients who are bedridden or people who have had long-term therapy, the benefit will be available to three members.
Allowance will be granted for a period extending up to thirty days.
In addition, each family that is housed in relief camps will be given an immediate assistance amounting to ₹10,000.
Wayanad’s District Collector has been asked by the government to determine if these families moving out of camps can be absorbed into public or government-owned buildings. The Chief Minister stated that when the collector submits his report on this matter, the government will decide on where and how much rent should be allocated.
