The air force has announced that one pilot was killed while the other was injured upon collision of two small planes mid-air during an air show at Beja Airport in southern Portugal on Sunday. The incident occurred during a performance involving six aircraft.
Following this accident, the air show which unites many military airplanes and helicopters came to a halt.
“The air force is sorry to announce that at 4:05 pm (1505 GMT), at the Beja Air Show in Portugal, two planes were victims of an acrobatic death,” it said in a brief statement.
Eyewitnesses claim that this crash involved aircrafts from the YAK STARS aerobatic patrol dubbed by the Air Force in the event program as ‘the largest civilian aerobatic display team in Southern Europe’.
