During a rally in Michigan, Kamala Harris was interrupted by protesters who were chanting about the Gaza war. She responded angrily saying those who supported Donald Trump needed to tell everyone what they wanted and continued her speech. The crowd loudly cheered as she answered.
Harris initially acknowledged the protestors, stating “I am here because we believe in democracy but I also know we should be listening.” This drew applause from the audience.
While the protests persisted, Harris’ tone changed into a more stern one and she replied, “know what? If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I am speaking.”
Her response resulted in a unified chant from the crowd: “We’re not going back! We’re not going back!”
Harris kept speaking and explained how disastrous it would be if Trump won. “And we are not going back because we know what that would look like. And again let’s understand that Donald Trump wants to end Obamacare and bring us back to a time when insurance companies had the ability to deny people with pre-existing medical conditions. All of us recall that era and it is not going to happen again.”
As there was a disruption earlier on, Harris reiterated her commitment to democracy by stating that: “I am here because I believe in democracy and everybody’s voice matters. But I am speaking now,” which was met with cheers from the audience.
The biggest day yet of Harris’s presidential campaign came during a rally at an airplane hangar outside Detroit.
She said while addressing thousands of supporters “Michigan, ultimately in this election we each face a question. What kind of country do we want to live in? The beauty of our democracy is we each have the power to answer that question,”
“Then use your power for these next 90 days,” urging enthusiasts at the rally event-door knocking registration campaigns-neighborhood mobilization.
She concluded “Are you ready to make your voices heard? Do we believe in freedom? And Do we believe in opportunity? Do we believe in the promise of America? And are we ready to fight for it? And when we fight, we win. God bless you.”
Minnesota Governor and Vice Presidential running mate Tim Walz joined Harris at the rally. Walz is traveling with Harris and testing his message and style that will woo votes from Midwestern states like Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Harris and Walz started their battleground state tour with stops in Wisconsin, Michigan; an introduction by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro emphasized the significance of the upcoming election, which is meant to unite support throughout Midwest.
