Odisha Assembly Elections 2024 | Highlights and Analysis
In what could be described as an epic upset, the aggressive Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to form government in Odisha with a slim majority ending a 24-year long reign by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
By 8 p.m., the BJP had won 35 seats and their candidates led on another 42 seats. The halfway mark for forming the government is 74 in 147-member Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Strong anti-incumbency feelings along with widespread anger against Tamil Nadu-born former bureaucrat V.K. Pandian’s domination of governance and party affairs have destroyed Biju Janata Dal (BJD) fortress in the eastern State.
