There was no moment for India at Cannes Film Festival, according to Anurag Kashyap. He argues that it is only the triumph of independent film makers during European gala and the government does not support such type of cinema that can be appreciated by international audience.
India had never won three awards at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival until last month when Payal Kapadia’s “All We Imagine As Light” emerged winner in Grand Prix, making her the first ever Indian director to do so; Anasuya Sengupta also scooped best actress under Un Certain Regard category for “The Shameless”, whilst FTII student Chidananda S. Naik bagged short film award for “Sunflowers Were The First Ones To Know” at La Cinef section.
“I hate it when they say ‘India@Cannes.’ This is a stimulant… an uplifting experience for many indie filmmakers but their success is personal,” Kashyap said to PTI in one on one interview with him here.
