There was a video footage that showed how a female NYPD officer was attacked by an alleged repeat offender on a Bronx sidewalk causing facial injuries to her. This incident happened at around 7:10 pm on Thursday, August 6th at Rosedale and Randall avenues.
Ernst Delma, age 41, was having an argument with some children and the officer tried to interfere. Delma turned violent, hitting her in the face before she could respond; as a result, she fell down. According to sources, the officer suffered lip laceration then she was rushed to a nearby hospital. She is now in stable condition.
The footage taken by one of the observers shows another man police kept on restraining. While he struggled after being pinned down. During the fight Delma’s trousers came off exposing him to onlookers before his hands were cuffed.
The injured woman had her nose bleeding and looked confused as witnesses hurried to assist her. An individual from among the crowd helped her up.
Delma is a local resident of where the incident took place has been charged with assaulting a police officer and obstructing law enforcement. According to a police spokesperson, officers attempted “to arrest” when he “hit an Officer.” Other officers are seen in this video rushing for their colleague simultaneously they subdued Delma who during this grappling received blows from one of them.
As officers put handcuffs on him, Delma continued resisting arrest.He would later be taken for evaluation at St Barnabas Hospital. The NYPD has stated that there have been previous arrests related charges such as assault and burglary against Delma.
Patrick Hendry who leads Police Benevolent Association(PBA) criticized this attack saying,” Thank god our sister is recovering from this savage assault but this is exactly what happens when justice system cares more about mollycoddling criminals than backing up cops on the street”.
Hendry added,” We will be watching closely so that this person is rightfully charged and kept off the street. Our sister and her partner did their job. Now everybody else in the criminal justice system needs to do theirs.”
