U.S. Vice President and all but official Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Friday drew the attention of Flint’s Arab American and Muslim community leaders in order to calm the very people who are not pleased with the support extended by America towards the war that Israel has launched against Gaza and Lebanon.
Her meeting with this group is crucial for her in the presidential campaign, as this is a constituency that she is fighting to woo after they supported the democrats in the last elections in 2020, even though their support is under threat of being pulled away.
In the course of the half hour interaction, she was able to state how she is concerned about the humanitarian situation which is worsening in Gaza and civilian deaths arising from the hostilities. A Reuters report also states that during the meeting, she further explained how such attempts were iterated and how a wider conflict was being sought to be avoided.
Wa’el Alzayat, Chief Executive Officer for Emgage Action said that the meeting was a way to articulate the community’s grievances, stressing that the attendees vented their severe dissatisfaction about the American response to the situation.
“We don’t understand how much violence is happening in Gaza and Lebanon” informed Reuters:“Emgage Action further mentioned that it urged Vice President Kamala Harris to convey to President Biden the importance of an immediate cessation of hostilities. “Yes, she agrees that this war needs to end.”
Mr. Ed Gabriel, president for American Task Force on Lebanon too brought to the for the very important concern regarding the cessation of the fighting and incorporating the assistance that will come needed in the US and its brethren to help mitigate the grim situation.
Notwithstanding the negative appreciations, the meeting was not without positive interactions. For instance, it was the turn of some noted leaders to forward returns while others complained of being overlooked. Hala Hijazi, a lifelong friend of Harris who has lost several relatives in Gaza also boycotted the gathering of relatives.
With the U.S presidential elections hover around the corner, Kamala Harris cannot afford to lose ground against Republican ex President Donald Trump in what seems to be the most competitive race thus far. There were, so reports, similar patterns drawn out for both candidates as for support from American-Arabs and Harris cannot afford to push that way.
As the military onslaught by Israel extends over the occupied territories, criticism directed towards the political leadership of the USA particularly Biden and Harris has recently embraced attacks limiting the onslaught on the occupied people, something that resonates well in the community. ”
Earlier that day, Kamala Harris grinned through her litigation over the Union deal that ended a dockworkers’ strike in Redford Township, demonstrating her support for labor issues. Still, a statement issued shortly after by a spokesman for the Trump campaign assured that Harris is putting at risk thousands of auto jobs as she is ambiguous on her position on the prohibition of all internal combustion engines cars which she aspires to enforce by the year 2035.
