Vinay Mohan Kwatra became the Indian Ambassador to the United States on Monday, August 12, 2024.
India’s Foreign Secretary until recently was Mr. Kwatra aged 61.
Taranjit Singh Sandhu succeeded him and retired from the foreign service early this year having served as India’s top diplomat in the U.S from 2020-2024.
“Welcoming Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra as the new Ambassador of India to the United States of America. We (at Indian Embassy) are very delighted to work with him,” wrote Charge D’ Affaires Sripriya Ranganathan on X.
A bunch of important Indian Americans from Greater Washington DC area had gathered at Dulles International Airport but were not able to meet new Indian Ambassador.
Mr. Kwatra formerly served as Minister of Commerce in the Indian Embassy here is expected to present his credentials to President Joe Biden shortly.
He also served as India’s Ambassador to France and Nepal before being named as foreign secretary.
July 14 he went on retirement after foreign service.
