The party founder of PMK, S. Ramadoss has declared that C.Anbumani will be the NDA candidate in the by-election to the Vikravandi assembly constituency to be held on 10th July.
In 2016, Mr Anbumani had contested from Vikravandi and received 41119 votes against AIADMK’s 56622 votes and DMK’s 63203. In that election, PMK obtained more than twenty-three and nineteen percent votes out of all casted ballots there
As such it is worth noting here that PMK has changed its position on participating in by-elections by presenting a candidate for this one. Its last participation in a bi-poll happened in 2010.
On Thursday when the party executive council met, a note from the party said the decision was ‘unanimously’ taken “in view of present political climate”.
PMK had recently partnered with BJP for the countrywide parliamentary polls this year. K Annamalai, TN BJP President stated early this week that as part of NDA alliance, PMK would contest at Vikravandi.
A vacancy arose at Vikravandi following the death of MLA N. Pugazhenthi of DMK in April this year. The counting will take place on July 13th.
