The day before he retired, S. Velladurai, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Records Bureau), Tiruvannamalai, was suspended by the Tamil Nadu Home Department.
In 2003, when he worked as a Sub-Inspector in Chennai, Mr. Velladurai became famous for his involvement in the killing of Ayothikuppam Veeramani. He also took part in ‘Operation Cocoon’ where dreaded first brigand Veerappan was killed by the Special Task Force of Tamil Nadu police in 2004.
According to sources from the police department, Mr. Velladurai had been suspended on Monday for allegedly having a finger in a custodial torture that ended up with one suspected criminal named Kokki Kumar alias Ramu dead. However, after investigating this case themselves CBCID submitted its report before that court which told that no further action should be taken.
