Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Tuesday (December 3, 2024) urged the Tamil Nadu government to step up vigil during the monsoon season to ensure people living in low lying areas and hilly terrains were not affected by floods and landslides.
In a statement, Mr. Vasan expressed concerns over the death of seven persons in a landslip in Tiruvannamalai district following heavy rainfall on Sunday. He said boulders and slurry covered three houses that led to loss of lives.
The State government should take precautionary measures in areas identified as disaster prone and create awareness among people as to how to handle and protect themselves during extreme weather events. He also expressed condolences to the family members of those who lost their lives.
