President Joe Biden said he would travel to areas affected by Hurricane Helene over this week if it does not interfere with the ongoing rescue efforts.
According to the news agency AP, Biden was informed on the storm’s effects over the Southeast region in the US on Sunday night and when he spoke with the press termed it as “stunning”. He went on to explain that the federal government is giving states “everything we have” to help with the crisis.
Joseph Biden heard from such local and state officials of the hardest-hit areas as the Governor of Georgia Brian Kemp, the Governor of North Carolina Roy Cooper, Valdosta mayor Scott Matheson, and Taylor County Emergency Management Director John Louk. One such multiple county including Asheville in North Carolina funneled thirty dead and that was the last count registered for the storm from all the affected states which stands at not least 84 bodies.
Biden was in Delaware for the better part of the weekend over the Easter break but is always in the loop for the latest updates concerning the storm from FEMA Administrator on Wednesday Deanne Criswell and other officials. At one point during the weekend, Biden asked Criswell how Federal assistance could be fast-tracked to reach isolated communities that needed it most.
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign informed that Trump plans to travel to Valdosta, Georgia, this Monday to evaluate the damage caused by the hurricane. Trump’s siren call to Georgia will include a briefing, distribution of relief supplies and remarks.
