Next week US President Joe Biden is planning to welcome British PM Keir Starmer for talks on war in Ukraine, Gaza, and much more.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that the purpose of the meeting will be “yes, to continue strong military assistance to Ukraine in its war against Russia” and “to negotiate a hostage and ceasefire agreement to bring the war in Gaza to a close.”
The discussion is set for Sep 13, 2022. During this trip, Starmer will make his second visit to Washington since he took office in July.
The US President has wanted a ceasefire to the Israel-Hamas crisis in the Gaza strip before leaving the Oval Office. But peace negotiations led by the USA, Egypt, and Qatar are far from any settlement till date.
The next meeting comes after the July 21 announcement of Biden’s withdrawal of poise in the 2024 US presidential election, handing over Elctoral Democratic Nomination opportunity to Kamala Harris. But It is still in the dark if Starmer meets Harris during his trip to Washington or he doesn’t.
Turning to the environment in Ukraine, a part of russian territory has been seized by Ukrainian troops as Russia also progressed within eastern parts of Ukraine.
According to the news agency AFP, Biden and PM Starmer are also expected to talk about the threats to maritime commerce from Yemeni Houthi rebels supported by Iran as well as the attempt to contain the growing Chinese influence in the Asia Pacific region.
Starmer is reported to have visited the White House two months ago when he met Biden one on one during Washington’s Nato Summit.
