In Columbus, Ohio on Sunday morning, a shooting took place that left 10 people with one being in critical condition. The incident happened shortly before 2:30 am local time in Short District of Arts North. The latter is a section of the city known for its nightclubs.
Police in Columbus confirmed that six gunshot victims were found when officers arrived at the scene. Afterwards it was discovered that four more patients had been taken to hospitals. The age of these victims ranges between 16 and 27 years and they received treatment at different hospitals located within the city. One adult remains in serious condition while the other nine are expected to pull through having stabilized according to AP.
The suspect is wanted by the authorities. According to Sgt Joe Albert, a man dressed in black was seen running away from the scene using a car. Subsequently, he drove onto Interstate 670 after driving against traffic on a street while pursued by police cars. On X (formerly Twitter), Columbus police used social media to request information about the vehicle belonging to those suspects. “Detectives need your help locating this vehicle involved in a shooting this morning in the 1100 blk of N. High St., where 10 people were shot. The vehicle is believed to be a white, 4-door Honda Civic with tinted windows,” cops said.
Mayor Andrew Ginther took to social media regarding the situation urging people with any helpful information about it share them so as to get justice or hold someone accountable.
“This morning’s gun violence in Short North was outrageous, unacceptable, and must stop!”, he said
Accordingly, Ginther suggested even more mechanisms put forward by state and federal authorities that would reduce access of firearms by criminals; parents could also visit their places of residence during night hours.
“Parents have a responsibility – know where your children/teenagers are and impose household curfews”, underscored Mr Ginther.
