NEW YORK: US House Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday escalated the politicization of Donald Trump’s criminal trial, appearing at the New York court and accusing the justice system of being “weaponized” against the former president.
In an audacious move, Johnson and other GOP legislators – including somebody thought to be a possible running mate for Trump, stood by as he spoke to reporters in front of his trial’s entrance.
The speaker of the House of Representatives, who is second in line to become President of America and has substantial constitutional influence, later claimed that Trump was ‘guiltless’ regarding allegations that he had forged corporate papers as part of an attempt to hide secret money given to a porn star amidst 2016 presidential elections.
“Nobody can say with a straight face that has looked at this objectively that our country’s judicial system hasn’t been weaponized against president Trump,” commented Johnson.
“The system right now is using all its tools in order to make one president pay while saving another,” he added referring to Joe Biden, the current President who will run-off against Trump in November election time.
“I called up Mr. President and said I am coming down here myself because this is a travesty – and I think people across America see it.”
Besides, Johnson also attacked Michael Cohen, a former personal lawyer for Mr. Trump acting as star prosecution witness described him as “a liar out for personal revenge” even though Cohen was on cross examination Tuesday.
Indeed, there are specific powers vested within three different branches of government by U.S Constitution such as the legislative branch, executive branch and judiciary – nevertheless; it was odd for a congress leader appearing outside an open court behind someone before they enter into it (Merida).
As he spoke to newsmen Trump commended those like Congressman Byron Donalds who had come along with Johnson offering support.
“I do have quite a few surrogates speaking about me very nicely”, noted Trump.
Moreover, in contrast, the House Democratic Representative Bill Pascrell said that Republicans were “flocking like groupies to stand behind their boss Donald Trump” on X.
