In a shocking turn of events in the 2024 US presidential race, the Vice President, Kamala Harris is gaining strength against former President Donald Trump, especially in places where Trump has been winning. A recent Reuters/Ipsos survey that took place between August 23 and 25 shows that Harris’s ability to catch up with the opponent on issues of the economy and crime indicates changes in voters’ moods just before the elections come November.
Scarcity of Trump’s trump card that related to economic and employment issues, a bulwark of his campaign has become of history. The poll shows 43%of registered voters favor Trump in relation to the economy while 40% back Harris, such a gap is fairly accurate considering error margin of four points in either direction. Many people participate in politics and unfortunately sometimes politicians have no clear strategy about the appeal of their party contrary to popular belief. Harris previously claimed that she does not support Trump’s foreign policy in relation to China because America does not need enmities.
On the same issue on crime and corruption, the registered voters in this instance support Harris and Trump at 40%, virtually locking heads at this stage in the race. This is quite different from the month before when Trump had a 5 per cent advantage on this as secure compared to most Americans. Harris’s defensive stock against other candidates was sufficient. Hearing Harris’s name after all that I saw Harris’s pistols sanctimoniously dreaded. Looking at the general depiction of the Nakwala AG variant endorsement in the perspective of the purportedly politized social democracy model.
While Trump’s continuous rhetoric created a sharp focus on the economy as many blasted the Biden administration over the issue of inflation, Harris has taken another course of action in their strategy indicating that they will fight against price gouging and try to ensure household costs are manageable. This strategy seems to be bearing fruits as electoral concerns especially on economic issues are still high where 26 % of the respondents still rank economy as first among other issues.
However, it’s not only her policies that are helping Harris move ahead in her career. Recently, the New Republic reported that she was backed by a group of some prominent former Republican staffers who have sided with her against Trump. It comprises hundreds of former staffers from the administration of George W Bush, aides of the late John McCain senator and mortgage Romney, signed a letter about the alleged unsustainability of Trump’s rule.
In a letter sent to nearly 250 signatories, this new group of open letter was received nearly 100 signatories more than the same letter issued in 2020 this included 220 women. They expressed extreme frustration at the prospect of a second indictment of President Trump. They cautioned that Trump would be detrimental to the American way of life and institutions and the working class and society in other ranks significantly. The endorsement underscores the emerging intra-party crevices within the Republican Party structure as many age long conservatives resent Trump’s reign and the radical elements that he has engendered.
