It was a powerful endorsement at the Democratic National Convention that electrified the attendees when former President Barack Obama said “the torch has been passed” to Kamala Harris, ushering Democrat’s new era in the US. Obama spoke to a crowd that nearly filled the arena praising Vice President Harris as “ready for the job” and someone who does not give up fighting for Americans who are needy.
Obama’s remarks were met with enthusiastic applause and they showcased Harris’ determination and preparedness for the presidency, “Kamala Harris is ready for the job. This is someone who has devoted their life to people in need,” he stated stressing further her dedication towards serving the public. He labeled Donald Trump as “dangerous,” exposing a sharp difference between these two rivals.
His endorsement had a call-and-response like his own campaign slogan where he repeated it several times asking for yes she can with an answer of his supporters chanting back at him in agreement. Repeating yes we can, this mantra summarized optimism and unity within the party that echoed throughout.
Earlier on, Michelle Obama brought her trademark positivity to bear on proceedings. “It’s hope that is contagious,” she noted referring to Harris as my girl while pointing out how hope made a remarkable comeback after being part of Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan.
The mood continued to be buoyant by Joe Biden’s poignant farewell remarks delivered during yesterday night session after dropping off from contestation. Biden has endorsed Harris to take over from him; therefore, Mr. Biden showed his deep respect and trust towards the latter leadership capacity.
The Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff, described her as joyful and tough in touching tribute saying she is just right president of this moment in American history.
As democrats unite behind her, they seem set on challenging Trump’s renaissance. On one hand crowds are flocking into ‘Harris’ rallies while on other side Trump recently criticized her positions. During a rally in Howell, Michigan, Trump criticized Harris’s take on crime while wrongly arguing that violent crime has been on the rise.
While continuing to attack her like calling her an “anti-police” activist ,Trump seems to be taking a lead over Biden in terms of campaign strategies. Democrats, who put up a strong show at the convention and got some high level endorsements are going into the general election with renewed energy.
Harris, who was very warmly received in Chicago is set to continue her campaign with a major event in Milwaukee which epitomizes increasing interest in her while highlighting dwindling numbers attending Trump events.
In conclusion Obama hailed Biden as an “outstanding president” who had “defended democracy at a moment of great danger” illustrating how symbolic passing of the torch to Harris became as the party heads for November elections.
