Three children aged 6, 12 and 13 and three other persons were killed yesterday in an early morning fire at a house situated in the southwest of Atlanta according to the local coroner’s office. The eldest victim was in his/her seventies.
A firefighter from Coweta County suffered minor injuries.
Presently, five survivors out of eleven individuals who were inside this building are currently at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta where it is suspected that some have “serious injuries” according to Coweta County Fire Rescue. Georgia’s Newnan is the location where the fire department received an emergency call at 4:57 a.m. and dispatched to respond.
“The first unit arrived within 9 minutes and found over half of the home was on fire with flames coming from the roof”, stated Coweta County fire officials.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss,” said Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, adding “We request everyone to keep these victims and their families in their thoughts.”
The cause of fire is under investigation by a joint team comprised of Coweta County Fire Rescue, county as well as state fire marshals’ offices besides that of the sheriff’s office for Coweta County.
