According to The Guardian, the United Nations has just put Israel and Hamas on a list of countries that have violated children’s rights.
In an announcement Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel accused the UN of “joining the ranks of those who support the murderers from Hamas.”
The UN will bear consequences for this decision which may worsen already strained relations between Israel and it, as warned by Israeli FM, Israel Katz. Among them is refusing to cooperate with UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency), the main body delivering relief to Palestinian refugees in Gaza, West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
This happened only yesterday after Israel bombed a school in Gaza killing 40 Palestinians. During their ongoing offensive against Gaza that began back on October 7th, over 13 thousand children have been killed by Israelis till date.
Another group mentioned in this report was also Hamas which kidnapped and killed children during its attack on Israel on October 7th resulting in around 1200 Israeli deaths.
Israel’s U.N envoy Gilad Erdan called it a “shameful” move while expressing his shock and disgust for the act.
The focus is child abduction or recruitment; sexual abuse; death; maiming; targeting hospitals and schools.
