Russian officials said on Monday that more than two dozen drones were launched by Kyiv on the Russian region of Kursk during several attacks, which started Saturday night and reportedly destroyed an oil depot.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence said on the Telegram messenging app that its air defence systems had shot down 19 drones launched from Ukraine overnight.
This comes after 19 drones which were destroyed by defence systems over the area yesterday as announced by Andrei Smirnov, Kursk’s governor.
Neither Smirnov nor the Russian defence ministry stated how many drones in total Ukraine used.
The oil depot fire started by Ukraine’s drone attack late evening Saturday was still being fought by firefighters, according to Smirnov.
He said there had been minor damage to some residential buildings due to these bombings.
Russian officials rarely reveal the extent of destruction caused by Ukrainian attacks.
According to Russia’s defense ministry, its air defense systems have totally destroyed 39 UAVs launched at Russian territory from Ukraine during last night.
In Western Russia five were shot down in Bryansk and nine fell in Belgorod; three each crashed in Leningrad and Voronezh Oblasts.
There was no mention of Oryol region where, according to governor of this Southern Russian province, a power station was hit by a drone attack coming from Ukraine over night.
Since 2022, when full-scale invasion began with Russia attacking its smaller neighbour country; Ukraine has deliberately targeted Russian transportation infrastructure together with energy sources and military installations just for disrupting Kremlin economy so that it doesn’t manage supporting war.
Additionally, Kyiv argues that its drone assaults are reprisals against ongoing Russian airstrikes on Ukraine.
