KYIV: Ukrainian forces said they were battling Russian soldiers in the other parts of Vovchansk in Kharkiv region, northward on Thursday but that they had not been able to come into the country deeper from a border locality.
Should it happen, this would be Russia’s biggest achievement since it invaded the area last Saturday by attacking from a new direction and necessitating Kyiv to mobilize reinforcements quickly.
‘The enemy’s plan of breaking through further into the territory of Vovchansk and getting hold of some positions in there is not realized,’ – stated General Staff of Ukraine.
It added that Vovchansk was under control whilst their defensive operations caused Russian troops to slow down their attack pace moving them towards the north of Kharkiv oblast’.
Ukraine military spokesperson Nazar Voloshyn said Ukrainian troops are trying to deny Russian forces footholds in northern portion of the area.
“Our units… detect separate enemy units, the location of artillery deployments and inflict damage to prevent the enemy from accumulating forces and equipment in the northern part of the town of Vovchansk,” Voloshyn said in televised comments.
