The youth is likely to be charged by the CBI for allegedly distributing a “doctored” screenshot of UGC-NET paper on Telegram that made the Union Home Ministry call off the exam after it was informed about a potential “leakage”, according to officials.
No large-scale conspiracy was detected by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in this case and accordingly, they said, the charge sheet will be limited to offenses of attempt to cheat or cheating.
A school student “doctored” a screenshot of the “leaked” question paper for June 18 examination, which was found by the central agency’s probe into alleged UGC-NET paper leak, officials said.
However, they added that these findings are said to have been communicated by CBI informally and might soon be used as grounds for filing charges against him.
More than eleven lakh candidates had registered for the exam which allows them to apply for junior research fellowship, become an assistant professor or get admission into PhD program in Indian universities and colleges.
Alert from Union Home Ministry’s National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) led to cancellation of examination on 19th June by Ministry of Education as confirmed through its statement issued immediately after scrapping it following receipt of certain information regarding the same from UGC.
“The UGC received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs on the examination. These inputs prima facie indicate that integrity of above-mentioned examination may have been compromised,” it said in a statement upon cancellation of exams.
