The United Democratic Front (UDF) has reportedly dropped plans to table a no-confidence motion against Mavoor grama panchayat congress member and its panchayat president, K.C. Vasanthi Vijayan in Kozhikode district.
Through the last two days’ work of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), a consensus has been achieved on this objective. As per it, Ms. Vijayan will hold office up to August before being succeeded by Razak Valappil who was elected as a member via a byelection recently. As per an earlier agreement, the Congress, IUML and RMPI were supposed to share their turns at appointing Panchayat President.
In September last year when Ms. Vijayan became head of the local body following six months period her district Congress leadership asked her to resign immediately. Nevertheless she remained firm resulting in UDF allegedly contemplating on moving no confidence motion against her last week with an intention of ensuring her resignation from office.
